So, Duo is apparently dead. He was supposedly hit by a Tesla Cybertruck.

"It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mascot, Duo the Owl," a Duolingo spokesperson said in a statement. "For years, he tirelessly reminded millions to do their language lessons − sometimes with gentle nudges, sometimes with sheer, unhinged persistence. But even the most relentless of birds can only take so much."

And this is either serious or literally the smartest marketing tactic. They even changed the app icon to a dead owl! And Duolingo is actually known for participating on social media, and they regularly post memes on their YouTube channel and other platforms. Many people and other companies have commented messages expressing their support.

Baskin Robbins commented, "Only the good (birds) die young." And "But where can we RSVP to the funeral reception," Squishmallows commented on Instagram, followed by "How else am I supposed to talk to my customers" from retail company Fashion Nova.

Who Was He?

Duo Keyshauna Renee Lingo, better known as Duo, was born on 1000 B.C., according to a post by Duolingo on X. He was known for his "gentle" (And persistent) "nudges" to keep learning be doing a daily lesson.

He was first actually debuted in 2011 and has been updated over the years. Duo is also known for participating in outrageous memes and was active on social media.

Duo also idolizes the pop sensation Dua Lipa, and has actually proposed to her. The 2 share a bond and she tweeted, "Til’ death duo part."

To conclude, even though he may be dead, we will remember (And fear) Duo Keyshauna Renee Lingo. Farewell Duo, and rest in peace.
